5 of the best… quirky summer food festivals 2025
by Christine Faughlin

If you have a fondness for one type of food or drink, there might just be a festival for it…
1. Brancaster Oyster Festival, Brancaster Staithe, Norfolk
If you love the salty, creamy taste of just-shucked plump oysters, then there's no better place to be than the Brancaster Oyster Festival. From 13-17 August, you can watch the team at The White Horse Pub expertly shuck dozens of local oysters, and then pull up a marsh-side chair to enjoy a platter of just-prised-open molluscs, prepared any which way you like, with a glass of perfectly paired chilled English wine. Delicious.
2. Sausage and Cider Festival, Aberdeen, Scotland
If you love sausage and can’t say no to a pint of cider, then head to Aberdeen, Scotland on 9 August for the very best of both. When you tire of sampling bangers and brews at the Sausage and Cider Festival, there’s a fun line-up of entertainment, including the ‘fastest sausage-eating contest’.

3. Garlic Festival, Isle of Wight
If you’re the kind of cook who firmly believes there is no such thing as too much garlic, then follow your nose to the Isle of White for its annual Garlic Festival, which takes place from 16-17 August. It promises visitors plenty of opportunities to ‘Eat, Drink, Stink’…
4. Plum Festival, Pershore, Worcestershire
Pershore is famous for its juicy plums, grown in plentiful amounts in local heritage orchards. Watch the elegant Georgian town turn ‘plum crazy’ on the weekend of 23-25 August as it strings up purple bunting to celebrate the fruit at the popular Pershore Plum Festival.
5. Pie-Fest, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
Pork pies are a British picnic staple. Make some time on the weekend of 2-3 August to pop along to Melton Mowbray, home of the pork pie, for its mouthwatering Pie-Fest. When you’ve had your fill of some of the country’s finest pork pies, there’s all manner of other pies to choose from – hot and cold, savoury and sweet, veggie, vegan and gluten-free – with at least two Supreme Champions of the British Pie Awards offering their goods. There’s also workshops, tutored tastings and family entertainment.
6. Chilli Fest, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
You’ll be in for a hot summer at this year’s Chilli Fest, taking place in the grounds of Waddeson Manor on 29-31 August. You can get your hands on all kinds of chilli-related foods including sauces, pickles and oils, and watch contestants get hot under the collar at the chilli eating contest.
