Ingredients
- 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp clear honey or maple syrup
- a pinch of ground turmeric
- 2 thin slices of root ginger
- 2 lightly crushed cardamom pods
- 1 short cinnamon stick
- 2 tablespoons of whisky
- boiling water
Step by step
- Cut a thin slice from 1 lemon for garnish, then squeeze the juice from the rest of the lemon into a heatproof glass or mug. Boil the kettle. Stir 2 tablespoons of clear honey* or maple syrup in with the juice, with a pinch of ground turmeric, then add 2 thin slices of root ginger and 2 lightly crushed cardamom pods. Break in 1 short cinnamon stick and add 2 tablespoons of whisky, then top up with boiling water, stirring well as you do so. Taste and see if you need any more lemon, honey or whisky for your personal taste, then add the lemon slice to garnish and serve. *Use maple syrup, not honey, if vegan.
